  • New Person’s Meeting for the semester will be this Thursday at 7pm in CC-101. If you have any friends that are interested in joining college radio or just curious about what we’re all about, let them know this is happening! New members are always welcome!

  • Every day this week from 9-5, we are hosting our annual poster sale in the Cape Cod Lounge of the Student Union. Swing on in, peruse the wall décor, and listen to our DJ’s spin sweet jamz!

  • We will be holding elections for a new GM and Programmer for next year on March 22nd. Nominations will be submitted March 8th, so keep in mind anyone you think would be fit for the job!

II. Discussion Section. Topic: How can we publicize WMUA both on and off campus?

  • We came up with some excellent ideas in small groups on ways that we can advertise the station to a larger and broader listening audience. Here are the many ideas:

-Sending newsletters to different departments on campus that might benefit from or be pertinent to radio broadcasting.

            - Tabling at large events at the Mullins Center or FAC.

-Increase streaming slots/Create a PSA about streaming opportunities for listeners.

-Getting the Rock Block picked up by the dining commons and other places heavily trafficked by students (ie: UStore, Blue Wall, etc.)

            -Increase trade with local publications.

-Increase use of social networking (ie: Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to inform general public of up-to-date playlists and current events hosted by                the station.

-Assorted novelty items with the WMUA logo on them. Ideas included: pens, keychain bottle openers, sunglasses. Could be distributed to                those who sign up for our newsletter during tabling.

-Sponsoring more events both on & off campus. (ie: Jazz nights at Amherst Coffee or Loose Goose)

-Compiling a street team to plug WMUA and distribute flyers at local shows around the area.

            -Advertising on the PVTA.

            -Sidewalk chalking.

-Making a prominent link on CampusLive.

-Setting up a PA system at tailgating events before sports games.

            -Cover more community events.

LOTS of ideas! If you think you can help in making these things happen or have any other ideas, don’t let them go unheard! Email Sarah at publicity@wmua.org.

III. Department Updates:

  • Office—The mailboxes will be revamped this week to correlate with the new spring schedule. They will be alphabetized by first name, A-Z, and should be completed by the end of the week.

  • Music—There is a service hours opportunity for anyone with a car who is willing to drive to Northampton to transport CD’s to Turn It Up! Records. If interested, contact Barry at music@wmua.org.

If there is anything that isn’t in the stacks that you think absolutely needs to be there, let Barry know. He has a sweet deal set up with Turn It             Up! which allows him to get lots of excellent music at no charge!

  • Sports—Spring preemption list is out! It is posted online and in the studio. There are some minor errors in which the dates and days do not match in some instances. NOTE: the numbered date is always right, and the day is typically wrong.

  • Training—The date of the new training session has shifted from this Wednesday the 27th to the upcoming Monday, February 1st. If you are interested in training to become a DJ for the upcoming semester, email Nora at training@wmua.org.

            Also, trainers are needed desperately!

·     Production—The 500 GB GDrive is full! Nick intends to delete most of its contents by the end of the week. EMAIL HIM OF THERE IS ANYTHING LOCATED ON THE DRIVE THAT YOU DO NOT WANT DELETED. The last day to do this will be THIS Friday the 29th. You could also put a note in Nick’s mailbox outside the office.

IV. Open Announcements:

·     For those of you interested in being a part of radio at a local, community level, there will be a meeting tomorrow night from 7-8 at the Greenfield Community Radio Station on 393 Main St. in Greenfield. Email Daria Fisk at dariafisk@gmail.com if you have any questions or further interest.

·     When sending out WMUA mail, it is important that you stamp the account number stamp RIGHT below where you stamp the return address in the upper-left hand corner. There is a large amount of backed up mail due to the account number’s not being stamped properly. Keep this in mind!
